Take a look around next time you stop at traffic lights on a Sydney cycleway, you might just be riding with a visiting international dignitary.
Mayor of Vancouver Gregor Robertson is in Sydney to discuss how cities are leading the way on critical issues like climate change and inequality.
Robertson took to the city’s cycleways to experience first hand some of our planning and transportation challenges.
On two wheels and guided by City staff, Mayor Robertson was able to ride around our foreshore, along city centre cycleways to inner Sydney suburbs of Woolloomooloo and Surry Hills, and still be back at Town Hall in time for a busy calendar of meetings.
Sydney’s safe and expanding bicycle network has previously played host to politicians and civic officers from as far afield as New Zealand, Japan, Greece and the Netherlands.
Our visitors are certainly in good company, with bike riding twice as popular among inner city residents.
